Jason Bushong is a little bit country (wine, Paso Robles, agriculture) and a little bit rock n' roll (spin some vinyl and play pinball when you visit the tasting room). Jason is known for producing award winning and intense small-lot wines from a variety of interesting and under-represented grape varietals (albarino, tannat, etc) from around the Paso area.
Power Corruption & Lies
This Tannat blend is a flagship of Bushong. The 2019 version is far more floral and elegant than the 2018! The 2018 was dark and brooding and meaty, full bodied and opaque but this 2019 is juicy and fruity and floral with a medium body! Surprisingly candy-like aromas greet you that can best be described as "pink lemonade" and "strawberry cheesecake". No joke! On the palate we get flavors of dark fruit like blackberries but also baking spices and cinnamon, something meaty and floral. I love this wine but it's a huge departure from the 2018! Med body, light tannin, med acidity.
2019 100% Tannat
Another of my faves from Bushong! This wine opens with aromas of blueberry compote, keep enjoying to get the whole pie! Very fruity and punchy which is rare in a tannat! Some dark earthy leather aromas and flavors are joined by big rich blackberries with floral overtones. Med+ body, med tannin, med acidity.
